Gov. David Paterson has proposed mid-year spending cuts in state aid to school districts, which could mean the loss of $28 million in aid to Westchester schools, $10 million to Rockland’s schools and $3.95 million to those in Putnam. Although the state Legislature must approve the cuts, school officials are bracing for the possibility that they will have much less state aid. As Journal News reporter Gerald McKinstry wrote in a story published over the weekend, large school districts – including Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Lakeland, Clarkstown and North Rockland – could lose millions in funding.

The Journal News has created an interactive database that shows the proposed spending cuts for every district in the state. To search the database, click here: Proposed 2009-10 school budget cuts.
