Jazz and Nyack High School

October
15

Jazz musician Bob Mintzer will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Nyack High School, playing along with the school jazz band and the Rockland county Jazz All-Stars. Tickets are $10 at the door.

A special two-day jazz workshop will be held for any student in the area of any level on Nov. 2 and 10. The workshops are free. The first runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Nyack High School in the music department. The second, held the same place, will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Nov. 10 and will feature Mintzer as an instructor.

The concert and workshops are sponsored by the Nyack schools Arts Angels, co-produced by the county jazz and blues society. It is made possible, in part, with funds from the Community Arts Grants program of the Arts Council of Rockland, the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts and from Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee.

Mintzer is a jazz saxophonist, composer/arranger, band leader and educator; he’s won a Grammy and is a long-standing member of the Yellowjackets jazz quartet.
