Briarcliff High seeking writers for Web site

October
7

Here’s a press release from Briarcliff Manor schools looking for submissions to its new Briarcliff Gallery of Writing. The submissions can come from anyone in the community, student or adult, with a submission deadline of Nov. 6:

” The Briarcliff Gallery of Writing, a website created by Briarcliff High School and dedicated to celebrating the importance of writing in the Briarcliff community, is looking for writers to submit a sampling of their work to the site, which will be up and running as of October 20.

Inspired by the National Day on Writing, which is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English, Briarcliff High School English teachers Thomas Kersting and Jeremy Shulman initiated the project in the hopes that it would help celebrate the art of writing in the Briarcliff community.

“I think writing is an integral part of all of our lives,” says Mr. Kersting. “Whether we are writing emails, reports, texting, or using any other mode of written communication, we are writing every day. The Gallery is a forum for celebrating the many modes of writing that we use to communicate today.”

Writing in any form will be considered, including letters, essays, brief memoir sketches, poems, short stories, editorials, speeches, miscellaneous musings, hopes and dreams, or any other writing that matters to the writer, with a maximum of 2,500 words. Entries from Briarcliff Community residents, school community members, and anyone with a connection to Briarcliff are welcome.

To contribute a piece of writing, visit the website for the National Day on Writing: www.galleryofwriting.org/about_ncte.php#day. Click on “Browse Galleries,” at the top, then search for “Briarcliff Gallery of Writing,” and click on that name. Read the Gallery Guidelines linked to the bottom of the gallery page and click on the Privacy Policy at the top. To submit writing to the Briarcliff Gallery, click on “Contribute My Writing” at the top. All submissions will be read, and all those who submit their writing will receive email confirmation responses.

The website will be open for viewing from October 20, 2009 (the National Day on Writing), through June 1, 2010. The deadline for writing submissions is November 6.”
