Received this press release from Jonathan Bryant, principal of Putnam Valley High School courtesy of Maureen Bellino, district clerk and Superintendent Marc Space’s secretary:
“More than a few people have asked the question, “What do principals do during the summer”?
This past summer, High School Principals from the Northern Westchester/Putnam Principals Association spent a day together talking about current issues and trends in education. This retreat took place at the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Issues discussed included: 21st Century Skills for High School and Beyond and Effective Grading Practices. Discussions revolved around the goal of successfully preparing high school graduates to thrive, not just survive in whatever path they choose after high school.
Members in attendance at the retreat were: Matthew Byrnes, Brewster High School, Jonathan Bryant, Putnam Valley High School, Kevin Carroll, Carmel High School, Cheryl Champ, Lakeland High School, Adam Pease, Mahopac High School, and Susan Strauss, Walter Panas High School.
The Northern Westchester/Putnam Principals Association continues to meet monthly during the school year to share best practices and continue dialogue on key issues facing high school educators.”
