Here’s a press release from Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES:
“Recently enacted New York State legislation clarifies that certain school administrators and supervisors must complete training in the needs of autistic children. This affects all those assigned on or after September 2, 2009, to serve as special education administrators.
The Hudson River Teacher Center will provide this required training on five dates during the 2009-2010 school year. The Teaching Center, a NYSED-approved provider of coursework/training in the needs of students with autism, is located on Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES’ Yorktown Campus.
This coursework is recommended for special education teachers and special education administrators, support staff, paraprofessionals, teacher assistants/aides, and speech/language pathologists.
The training will be offered on October 21, 2009, and on the following dates in 2010: January 26, February 25, April 22, and May 19. All courses will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the front conference room of P/NW BOCES’ School Services Building. The cost is $75 per person per session.
The training will be presented by Rockland BOCES’ Barbara Kestenbaum, project director of Special Education Training and Resource Center. Upon completion, participants will receive the State Education Department Certification of Completion in Training in the Needs of Students with Autism.
