Free workshop for educators

Teachers, librarians, school nurses, anyone who is part of the school day, realize that students “at risk” are a problem in the daily routine of their school.
New York’s Freemasons are offering a two-day free workshop on October 7 and 8 at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School in Hawthorne, New York.
“At risk” students can include those with drug problems, alcohol, poor home environment, attention deficit disorder, anti-social behavior, even suicide, etc.
Schools have had student assistance teams whose job is to work with students who are engaging in behaviors that put them at risk for failure, retention at grade level, dropping out, or worse. These teams need to receive training, so that they learn to work effectively together to help students and parents. When was the last time your school’s student assistance team attended a workshop especially for them? The workshop is taught by Newman- Stecher International, professional consultants who are experts in this field and have developed this program.
Groups of 4-8 team members from the same school are invited to attend. Any number of schools from the same school district is invited, whether it be public, private or parochial .If this is not feasible, schools are invited to sent up to three observers from each school to participate and take information back to their schools.
The only cost to a school district would be the need to pay a substitute teacher, if necessary. Lunches will be served to participants. The Freemasons’ involvement is to underwrite the cost of this valuable public service.
For more information or to register a team, call chairman Tim McMullen at 1-888-694-0511 or e-mail to msat@nymasons.org.
