Fifty members of Stepinac High School’s Drama Club departed this weekend to represent the United States and perform on an international stage in the 2009 American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) in conjunction with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The festival will be held at the Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh through the end of the month.
Stepinac will be the only high school from New York State and among just 43 from the U.S. that will participate with four performances of the musical, “Curtains,” the backstage musical comedy whodunit from the creators of “Chicago,” August 21-24. Prior to their arrival in Edinburgh, the students will first visit London for workshops, theatre going and tours.
Introduced in 1994, The AHSTF was developed with the help of high school and college drama professionals. It is designed to complement high school drama programs and allow the nation’s drama students to showcase their skills within an international forum.
The Stepinac Drama Club staged “Curtains” in the spring this year including a special performance when Stepinac alumni Alan Alda and Jon Voight were on hand to honor their mentor and distinguished faculty member, Reverend Bernie McMahon.

Thank you for the blog. We are currently traveling the English countryside on our way from London to Edinburgh. The actors are sleepy as we had to get them up at 4am to make the train. We all enjoyed seeing a reproduction of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater yesterday.
Go Stepinac!!!!!
Sounds great, Patricia! Thanks for the update! Have a blast!
