The town of Greenburgh announced plans to host a series of creative writing workshops for children this fall.

In the Kids Short Story Connection, children between the ages of 9 and 17 will meet on alternating Saturdays at Greenburgh Town Hall to hone their writing skills with the help of professional writers who are also teachers. The seven workshops start on Sept. 12 and participants will have their work published in “Short Stories By Me,” an anthology.

Creative Writing Workshops for Children

Children in Westchester and Putnam Counties who love to write are invited to join Greenburgh’s Kids Short Story Connection (KSSC). Now in its fifteenth year, KSSC offers an affordable haven where writers between nine and 17 years of age can cultivate their creativity, hone their writing and re-writing skills, and develop peer-interaction skills with kids who share their love of writing. Workshops are led by published, professional writers who are also teachers. Each year, program participants have their work published in “Short Stories By Me,” an anthology of original work.

The fall 2009 KSSC series will begin Saturday, September 12th. The seven workshops will meet at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue, in Greenburgh, from 10 am until 12 noon on alternating Saturdays. Young writers may register for Part I (9-11 years old), Part II, (12&13), or Part III, (over 14). Each section is limited to10 students. Classes will be filled on a first-response basis.

The registration fee for Greenburgh residents is $95. For non-Greenburgh residents, it is $120. Full and partial scholarships are available. To register, send your child’s name, birth date, address, telephone number and a sample story to: KSSC/Arts and Culture Committee, 177 Hillside Avenue, Greenburgh, NY 10607. Contact Sarah Bracey White at (914) 682-1574 or bracey0114@aol.com for more information.

The Kids Short Story Connection is made possible by the Arts Alive Program of the Westchester Arts Council,
with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the NY State Council on the Arts.

First of all it would be great if you start teaching your children with vocabulary then proceed in teaching the proper way of writing.
