Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua has been named the Westchester/Hudson Valley Regional Champion for 2009 of Cablevision’s TV quiz show The Challenge.
Students — William Mantell, Samuel Caywood, Jimmy Wu (team captain), Paul Kim and Alexander Bernstein (team alternate), pictured from left to right below — bested competition from throughout the region in the show, which tests students knowledge of current events and school subjects in a Jeopardy-style format.
More than 900 students from 216 high schools in the Lower Hudson Valley, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut competed on the show, which is in its 12th year.
Horace Greeley, which received a check for $2,500, will go on to compete in the Tri-State Regionals on June 13 and 14 against Bronx/New York City regional champ Horace Mann High School. The match airs on News 12 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A win would take Horace Mann to the semi-finals. Horace Greeley was the Tri-State Regional Champion last year.
