SAT cancellation debacle

May
4

I wish I had more to report regarding why the SAT tests at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua were canceled Saturday, but neither the Educational Testing Service nor the College Board are saying much.

It’s “proprietary” information, they say.

“We canceled that test for administrative reasons and beyond that we really aren’t saying much more,” said Tom Ewing, spokesman for ETS.

Even when pushed, he maintained his stance.

“There are confidential reasons that we don’t wish to discuss and we’ll have to leave it at that,” he said.

Both the SAT I and the SAT II subject tests had been scheduled for Saturday, but students were turned away. Rumor are flying around as to why, but regardless of what the reason may be, students and parents have expressed frustration over the debacle.

ETA is now talking with district officials to schedule a make-up date, which is expected to be announced very shortly.

“When these things happen, what we try to do is work with school officials immediately to schedule a make-up as soon as possible that is convenient for students and parents,” Ewing said.

Were you affected by the cancellation? Please give me (Diana Costello) a ring at 914-694-3528 or shoot me an e-mail at dcostell@lohud.com.

One Response to “SAT cancellation debacle”

I smell a cover up. Either someone stole the test, or the test answers were found to be wrong. Either way they would never admit they did anything wrong. SAts are nerve racking. WHat is amazing is that the student has to change his.her schedule for it. and now that it has been cancelled. what? oh i get it 3 days before graduation tehy will be expected to take it. These types of tests should be over and done with,. they honestly gage very little.
But what do i know, I am not a state/government run agency that can make or break a persons life.

    sigh
