Horace Greeley SAT cancellation complicates student plans

Earlier today, we wrote about the abrupt cancellation of the Scholastic Aptitude Test this morning at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua. Read that story here and check for updates in tomorrow’s The Journal News.
We asked students who were affected to contact us to share their stories. Students have told us the cancellation will inconvenience them because a make-up exam could interfere with other Advanced Placement tests they are taking. One student said it could harm her college plans. Here’s an e-mail she sent The Hall Monitor:
I was one of the students effected by this detrimental decision to close down the testing center. I was told that there would be no other testing center to go to, so I did not attempt to travel to Fox Lane High School. If I knew I could, I would have taken the chance. The May 2nd SAT test was my one hope to take the exam for a scholarship program. This puts a real dent into my college planning. I cannot take the SAT in June and the make up date may interfere with previous plans made. I feel that college board is not being responsible. I have no information on any make-up date and the only time I can call them, according to the website, is on Monday at the earliest. Furthermore, within this week I have AP exams, which the college board also schedules, that may interrupt with may capabilities to succeed in both tests. My college plans are now hampered and I may not be able to make it into the college I yearned for. Thank you for posting more information on the website than what college board posted on theirs.Best wishes,
Sarah Joseph (Junior)
