From The Montfort Academy…

KATONAH, New York—Middle school students from throughout the area are invited to take part in The Montfort Academy’s Spring Renaissance Invitational, starting on Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 99 Valley Road in Katonah. The goal of the Invitational is to introduce young people in grades 6-8 to the value of a classical education in a fun and challenging atmosphere.

On April 4, the Montfort Debate Team will demonstrate their skills by debating the topic, “Catholic Schools Should Not Accept Government Financing.” Then middle school students will be guided by Montfort faculty and debate team members in preparing arguments and rehearsing formal debate presentations, which will be given to an audience of parents and faculty.

On Saturday, May 9, middle school students who attend the Invitational will have an opportunity to learn about chess, the ancient art of the mind, from American chess champion Henry Olynik. They will play the game against some of the best players their own age, with the coveted title of “MontfortMaster” going to the student who wins the most rounds.

On Saturday, May 30, the Invitational will offer a modified pentathlon, a challenging event devised by the Ancient Greeks to test the speed, endurance, strength and flexibility of competing athletes. Events will include a relay race, a half-mile run, the long jump, fencing, a football throw for distance and accuracy, and an obstacle course.
The Renaissance Invitational is an excellent way for prospective students and their families to familiarize themselves with The Montfort Academy. Recently named as one of the top fifty Catholic high schools in America for the fourth year in a row by Acton Institute for the Study of Religion & Liberty, The Montfort Academy is Westchester County’s only classical high school, focusing on academic excellence and character development for boys and girls.

The cost of each of the three Renaissance Invitational programs is $50 per student, or $140 for the series. Lunch and light refreshments are included. Registration and payment can be mailed to The Montfort Academy, 99 Valley Road. Katonah, NY 10536. More information can be obtained by calling (914) 767-0325 or by going to www.themontfortacademy.org.
