The Hastings Board of Education last night announced the appointment of Laura Sullivan as the new principal of Hillside Elementary School, effective July 1. She has served as the school’s assistant principal for the past year and a half.
Here is the official announcement:
Dear Hastings Community Member:
I am pleased to announce that at its meeting last evening the Board of Education appointed Laura Sullivan principal of Hillside Elementary School, effective July 1, 2009.
For the past year and a half, Ms. Sullivan has served with distinction as Hillside’s assistant principal. Prior to serving as an administrator, Ms. Sullivan worked 12 years as a special education teacher in the Harrison Public School District. She earned a Professional Diploma in Education Leadership from the College of New Rochelle and a Masters degree in Elementary and Special Education from Manhattanville College. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from SUNY New Paltz.
During the principal search process, it became quite evident to members on the search committee and to the Board of Education that Ms. Sullivan embodies the qualities, knowledge, and skills of an exceptional educational leader and she displays a strong commitment to the children, faculty, and staff of Hillside. I am confident that as principal, she will continue to work diligently on behalf of the children of Hastings.
I am delighted that Laura has agreed to serve as the next principal of Hillside Elementary School. Please join me in congratulating Laura by stopping by a ‘meet the new principal’ coffee I’ve scheduled for Thursday, April 16th, at 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Hillside Café.
Sincerely,
Robert I. Shaps
