Local students win scholarships in Siemens science competition

Three Westchester County students were among the big winners in the prestigious Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology announced today at New York University.
Hastings High School Senior Nityan Nair earned a $40,000 college scholarship in an individual category.

John Jay High School senior Eugenia Volkova and Somers High School senior Alexander Saeboe will share a $50,000 college scholarship in a team category.
Grand prize scholarships of $100,000 were awarded to one individual and one team. Scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 were awarded for second through sixth places.
The Siemens Competition started in 1998 to recognize America’s best and brightest math and science students. Administered by the College Board, the competition this year saw a 10 percent increase in the number of team and individual projects submitted, for a total of 1,205.
