Keeping an eye on education

‘President’s podcast’ now available online

November
28

Mount Vernon school board president Charles Stern has found a new way to deliver school news to city residents. SternĀ  launched a podcast that can be heard and downloaded on the school district’s Web site. Called the “President’s podcast,” Stern uses the medium to talk about what’s going on in the district and schools, and lets the public know what’s under discussion by the Board of Education.

In his most recent podcast — he’s had three so far — Stern talks about the district’s budget woes. He says the financial outlook for the schools is dire, especially with the state talking about mid-year cuts to education funding. He also reminds the public about an upcoming bond resolution for $20 million in state aid to fix up schools. Stern also commends volunteers who spent a day fixing up the Graham Elementary School on Nov. 15.
