School districts in the Lower Hudson Valley could face cuts in state aid under Gov. David Paterson’s plan to reduce New York’s budget deficit.
Under his proposal, the Yonkers school district could lose $8.3 million in state aid, a 3.7 percent cut. However, other districts, including Harrison, Pocantico Hills, Edgemont and Hendrick Hudson could receive cuts of 9 percent or more in state aid.
In Rockland, East Ramapo could lose $2.5 million, or 4 percent of its state aid, while Nanuet would receive a $585,827 cut, which is 9 percent of its aid.
Putnam school districts all would receive spending cuts as well. Mahopac could receive a $1.5 million cut under the plan.
On Tuesday, the state Legislature will meet in a special session to discuss ways of cutting the state’s budget because of a $2 billion budget deficit.
The Journal News has created an interactive database showing the proposed budget cuts for every school district in the state. You can find that database here: Budget cuts: Proposed cuts for every New York school district.
