Rockland Community College announced receiving a $50,000 grant today to train 220 automotive technicians and mechanics around the Lower Hudson Valley.
The grant was given to the RCC Center for Personal & Professional Development from the State University of New York Community College Workforce Development Training Grants Program.
Training will be given in three separate areas:
First, new hires just starting in the automotive service field will get help in entry-level skills, vehicle inspections and customer relations.
Second, veteran technicians will learn how to handle hybrid cars’ 400-volt systems—which can be lethal if mishandled. As a comparision, most technicians are used to working with 12-volt electrical systems.
Last, supply management training will be give to those in the auto service and auto parts fields.
Miele Auto Parts will work with the college’s Automotive Program to reach out to the community and help develop the training.
