Calling college-level organic farmers: scholarship available

October
10

College undergraduate and graduate students with a green thumb and an eye toward organic gardening can apply for a scholarship from the commercial food company Annie’s Homegrown.

Annie’s is familiar to people who have seen their distinctive purple boxes of macaroni and cheese.

This year, Annie’s will award $50,000 in scholarships to students studying sustainable organic agriculture. Deadline for applications is Oct. 30.

The nomination form and information can be found at www.annies.com/sustainable_agriculture_scholarship. The program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students beginning or returning to an accredited two- or four-year technical or college program or graduate school in the U.S. for the 2009-10 school year.

Last year, the company awarded 11 scholarships: eight at $2,500 and three at $10,000 each. Final decisions are made by March 3 and funds will be dispersed about June 15, 2009.
