Student scientists on Hudson River to study ecology

October
8

From the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor to upstate Troy, more than 2,000 students took to the historic waterway yesterday to help collect information about its temperature, salinity, fish presence and more.

The Day in the Life of the Hudson River field program, often referred to as “Snapshot Day,” offers a glimpse of river conditions at a particular time to educate people about the Hudson’s ecology and to help develop a school curriculum that includes the waterway in science, math, social studies and language arts lessons.

Dozens of Lower Hudson Valley students in Piermont, Croton and Irvington, among other locations, joined in the effort, which was sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program and run with Hudson Basin River Watch, as well as other partners.
