The Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services will hold its second annual Substitute Teacher Recruitment Fair. The Fair will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on October 7 in the Walden School on the BOCES Yorktown Campus.

P/NW BOCES and local school districts are seeking potential substitute teachers in all disciplines and grade levels to serve on a per-diem basis. Collaborating local districts include: Briarcliff, Croton, Hendrick Hudson, Katonah-Lewisboro, Mahopac, North Salem, Ossining, Yorktown, and BOCES (special education and career and technical education).

Requirements for interested participants include: college degree, experience with school-aged children, and a desire to make a difference. Certification as a teacher in New York State is desirable, but not necessary. Salary varies by school district.

Participants should bring multiple copies of their resume. Please note that the doors will close to new entrants at 5 p.m. For more information about the Fair, email sfair@pnwboces.org with questions.

All those interested in becoming substitute teachers in local public schools will be interviewed and, if hired, trained in how to be an effective substitute teacher. Training includes such topics as classroom management, preparing for an assignment, and developing an appropriate classroom tool kit. This three-hour training will be offered at no cost this fall.

Retirees are strongly encouraged to attend the Recruitment Fair.
