September
11

Peekskill High School Senior Lauren Contard has been recognized as a Semifinalist in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program based on her performance on the Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Approximately 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing and about half of the Finalist will win an National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference.

The National Merit Scholarship award winners will be announced in April concluding in July 2009.
