From the Hendrick Hudson school district:
REPORTED HEN HUD ENGLISH REGENTS SCORES ARE INCORRECT
91% of Students Passed 2006-07 Regents Not 83%New York State published incorrect 2006-07 English Regents test scores for the Hendrick Hudson School District in the recently released schools report card, the school district has announced.
The results were published in the Journal News, its website and in other media.
The August 12 article in the Journal News shows only 83% of Hendrick Hudson students passed the regents with a grade of 55 or better. However, when the district examined the data, 91% of students passed. The report card on the website shows that only 79% of Hendrick Hudson High School students scored 65% or better on the Regents when the actual number was 85%.
The district does not provide the data directly to the New York State Education Department. Instead, the information is extracted from the district database by Lower Hudson Regional Informational Center, which then relays the data to the state. It appears that in the batch of data delivered to the state, a group of “phantom grades†under 55 replaced the actual passing grades for a portion of students who took the Regents, thus substantially reducing the totals of students who passed the test.
The significantly low percentage of students passing in the Regents raised concern among high school staff who know their students well. This prompted a close examination of the Regents data, both at the district level and that which was provided by LHRIC to the state.
The district has contacted LHRIC and the organization has acknowledged the error. LHRIC informed the district that it is investigating the case and is examining all tests scores in all districts.
