The Rockland Community College Foundation welcomed two new board members, Robert Schelin and Michel Vilson.

Schelin, left, has been a member of the college’s Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2008. He is a social sciences professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College, where he has worked since 1977. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Oswego and a Ph. D. in American history from Binghamton University. Schelin was inducted to St. Thomas’ Hall of Fame as a Spartan Award winner, for his support of college sports.
Vilson, below, immigrated to the U.S. from Haiti in 1968 after high school. He is a laboratory specialist for four New York City high schools and presents a weekly educational segment on cable television. He retired from Wyeth in 20
04, after nearly 30 years there as a research manager. Vilson also worked as an adjunct at RCC, teaching English language learners from 1981 to 1996. He earned his associate degree in applied science from RCC, a bachelor’s of science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and a master’s in environmental science from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The RCC Foundation, a 26-year-old nonprofit, provides financial support to the college, mostly through scholarships. It has over 120 scholarships available for entering, current and graduating RCC students and gave out over $200,000 in scholarships in the past year.
