Last week, we ran a story about members of Yonkers-based Sister to Sister International traveling to the African countries of Senegal and Gambia, bringing with them donated books and hygiene products. (Read it here.) The delegation included Cheryl Brannan, founder and CEO; Yedidah Yehudah, international committee co-chairwoman; Terry Doswell, scholarship committee chairwoman; Sayidana Brannan Douglas, Cheryl Brannan’s daughter; and E. Adell Dowdy.
The women are keeping in touch with The Hall Monitor during their 10-day trip and have sent back a couple of photos of their visit to the Gambia National Library, where they dropped off hundreds of books, magazines, reference materials and educational workbooks. (The country’s official language is English). During the visit, they discussed new ways they can help the library and improve education in the country, including providing computers, giving scholarships to students, starting a pen pal program, creating health initiatives and developing a student exchange program.
