Yonkers’ pricey graduation tab

June
5

Besides the expensive parking at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, Yonkers taxpayers will also foot a hefty bill of $42,173.70 for their children’s graduation ceremonies.

That’s the tab for four high school graduation ceremonies on June 29.

Yonkers High School students will use their school’s auditorium because their senior class is small, unlike the large classes in the city’s other four high schools. The graduation tab breaks down to $36,277.50 for the facility rental, $4,315 for event insurance and $1,581.20 for catering for school staff and “dignitaries.”

Schools spokeswoman Jerilynne Fierstein said yesterday that the catering provides beverages and food for school staffers who will spend the entire day there organizing the graduations without a break. Last year Fierstein said she was at the county center from 7:30 a.m. until the evening.
