Scholarships go to area’s top students

The annual Carroll F. Johnson Scholastic Achievement Dinner, which is sponsored by the Lower Hudson Council of School Superintendents, this week recognized valedictorians and salutatorians from districts throughout the Lower Hudson Valley, as well as other exceptional students.

In all, 18 scholarships were awarded, thanks to the contributions of several local companies and individuals.

“These students represent the ‘best of the best,’ and their contributions in academic studies and service to others provide our collective communities with a sense of confidence that our future is in excellent hands,” wrote Edward Shine, president of the Council of School Superintendents and superintendent of the Rye city school district, in the event program.
