Students at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers launched a rocket this morning. Not an actual rocket, but a small replica, in a ceremony to honor Ron Garan, a former student at the school who is now part of the crew of the Space Shuttle Discovery that will blast off into space tomorrow.
From the school’s website: U.S. Air Force ROTC cadets, automotive technology students and US FIRST Robotics team members combined their imaginations and skill to launch a rocket at the school this morning in honor of alum Ron Garan. The students worked with ROTC coordinator Major Bruce Cortalano, Robotics advisors Mrs. Elizabeth O’Donnell and Mrs. Andrea Talbot, and Automotive Technology teacher Mr. Nicholas Ricciardi.
Here are some pictures from the event taken by my writer colleague Ernie Garcia. Like the students at Roosevelt, and the entire country, we at The Hall Monitor wish Garan and his crewmates well.
