The Mount Vernon School district will hold a breakfast on Monday to honor 14-year-old Yassine El Yousfi, the Longfellow Middle School student who made it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Sadly Yassine was eliminated during the preliminary rounds when he missed the obscure word “tetrapteran,” which means an insect with four wings.

The school’s PTA will host the breakfast, which begins at 9 a.m., to mark Yassine’s hard work to make it as a finalist. This is the second year the district sent a student to the spelling bee.
