The East Ramapo Board of Education is scheduled to meet tomorrow to decide what to do about its 2008-09 budget.
Last week, the board voted to wait a week to decide how to respond to the defeat of its $193.4 million budget proposal. Board members said they planned to spend the time lobbying Albany for more money. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the district’s administration building (at 105 S. Madison Ave. in Spring Valley).
The current options are to keep the defeated budget in place and declare it an austerity budget, make cuts and approve the lesser spending plan as an austerity budget or increase the proposal and put it back before the public.
Because the total budget was already less than a state-mandated austerity budget would have been, the board can choose the first option and institute the budget voters defeated by a 3-1 margin. Here’s a PDF of the most recent article we wrote about the meeting.
