The Irvington Middle/High School Midnight Run group will be hosting a “Cardboard Campout” on the grounds of the middle/high school tonight. Students and chaperones will be setting up a campsite in the quad area between the high school and middle school. Campsite shelters will consist of cardboard boxes, blankets, and plastic bags. The idea is to replicate the experience of sleeping on the streets. We will be trying to raise awareness within the school and community about the work that the students are doing for Midnight Run.
Here are the specifics for the evening:
• Students will arrive by 7:30 pm that evening.
• They will be camping rain or shine.
• Students may bring as much cardboard as they like in order to build their shelter for the night.
• We will provide “Midnight Run” blankets – no sleeping bags are allowed. Our friends on the streets rarely have the luxury of sleeping bags.
• No pillows.
• Students may bring a small backpack or bag.
• NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES! This includes cell phones, iPods, personal video game systems etc.
• Students may wear as many layers of clothing as you feel necessary. Be sure whatever you bring can fit in your bags.
• Please come WITHOUT having eaten dinner. A brown bag dinner will be provided for you later that evening. Remember – we are trying to replicate the “street experience.”
• NO FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED! The only food you may have is that which is provided by Midnight Run.
Bathrooms will be available inside the school building.
