Students at Valhalla Middle School last week raised $3,392 at a volleyball event for Operation Smile, which sends volunteers around the world to repair childhood facial deformities. With another $1,000 from Axa Equitable Life and an agreement by the Annenberg Foundation to double the amount raised, that brought the grand total to $8,784, which principal Steven Garcia said means help for 35 children around the world
This is the school’s third such effort; a 2006 fundraiser brought in over $7,000 to purchase cooling vests for soldiers in Iraq, and last year students raised over $4,000 to benefit the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Maria Fareri’s Children’s Hospital at the Westchester Medical Center.
