Even more appreciation for teachers, complete with a sore throat

I just spent the day speaking about newspapers to sixth-graders at Dobbs Ferry Middle School, and I have to tell you, I’m completely exhausted!
I know from covering the education beat that good teachers are animated and engaging, and so I tried my best to wear that hat for the kids. But boy oh boy is it tough work! And my throat, by the way, is killing me.
While I’ve always been in awe of good teachers, I’m even more so now  even though I was only playing the role for a few hours.
That being said, I was lucky that the kids (for the most part) were really into it. They asked great questions, ranging from the cost of news ink to the possibility of vast governmental and press conspiracies. It was fun to chat with them about my craft, and I hope I inspired at least a few of them to pick up the paper or check out the Web site from time to time.
Also, I signed my first autograph today! It was awesome!!
Thanks to the folks in Dobbs Ferry for having me in. Until next time…

You say you’re “completely exhausted” from your busy day with sixth graders, and then you go and make four more posts on The Hall Monitor! Now you know why you’re signing autographs!! Keep up the great work.
Thanks, Jack!
Thanks for coming to speak with us! It got us away from Mr. Feller for the day! We’ll send you some cough drops
.
HA! That Mr. Feller seems like quite the slave driver!
Thank you so much for coming. It taught us a lot about what newspapers have to offer both in print and on the web.
You rock!
Hey, how come the cops and robbers never ask me for my autograph?
Kids say the greatest things! And ask the BEST questions . . .
I am curious—how did you respond to the conspiracy questions?
