Registration underway for children’s speech program at Mercy College

February
12

img_0714.JPGDobbs Ferry —Mercy College announced today that the “Talk for Two” program is currently enrolling children for its spring session. The program is designed to help children between the ages of 19 and 36 months overcome minor expressive language delays while taking part in small play groups.

Talk for Two’s eight meetings, which will begin in February and are an hour in length, are conducted by Mercy graduate student clinicians under the supervision of Mercy faculty members, who are licensed and certified speech language pathologists. The program is open to the public and allows friends and neighbors of the College to receive treatment at discounted rates while enabling Mercy students to gain valuable training in their field.

“During a toddler’s development, a parent can enrich opportunities to help him or her acquire the most important skill he or she will ever learn—the ability to use language to communicate, said Eileen Hoffman, clinical supervisor at The Nick Spano Speech and Hearing Center at Mercy College. The Talk for Two program stresses the partnership between caregiver and child and creates opportunities through everyday activities that facilitate language development.

Parents and caregivers are invited to take part in the meetings. Topics to be explored include speech language development, sign language with infants, pre-literacy skills, and parent/child communication. The registration fee is $200. To learn more about Talk for Two or to register, please contact Eileen Hoffman at (914) 674-7741 or ehoffman@mercy.edu.
