From the school district….

The Ardsley Board of Education has announced that it has selected Dr. Charles Khoury as its candidate for the position of Superintendent of the Ardsley Union Free School District.

Dr. Khoury is currently Superintendent of Schools in Cresskill, New Jersey, a high performing school district in Bergen County. Prior to this position, he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Education with the Fair Lawn Public Schools; as the Principal of Paramus and Kinnelon High Schools; and, before that, was associated with the Ridgewood School District for 19 years. Dr. Khoury received his doctorate from Rutgers University. In his current position, Dr. Khoury’s initiatives include reorganizing the district to move from a junior high school to a middle school model, introducing Chinese to the curriculum through the Chinese Guest Teacher program, and providing staff development to implement differentiated instruction.

“I believe that all learning begins with wonder and I have challenged my teachers and administrators to foster and create a sense of wonder in every classroom, every day and for every student, Dr. Khoury said. “Every district I joined had a challenge. Every challenge was met and I believe that every district was better for students, faculty and parents because of what we were able to accomplish during my tenure there. I look forward to doing the same in Ardsley, he added.

To assist in the search for a new superintendent, the Ardsley School Board hired the search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates. The consultants met with members of the staff, students and community to develop the criteria that guided the search. A national search was conducted and fifty-seven candidates applied, including candidates recruited from Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

The Board believes that the search process was extremely thorough and rigorous. The Board is unanimous in its belief that Dr. Khoury is an excellent choice who matches the criteria established by the community, students and staff and that he will be an outstanding addition to the District. “Dr. Khoury clearly possesses the skills we want in our educational leader. He is an experienced superintendent who possesses exceptional curricular and instructional skills, a strong fiscal background, and has also demonstrated that he is a team builder and a clear communicator who is visible and accessible, said Mark Cohen, President of the Ardsley School Board.

Dr. Khoury is looking forward to meeting the community. During his visit he will meet with staff and students and tour the facilities. He will also meet with various leadership groups. The day will conclude with a community reception to which all community members (residents, students and staff) are invited. This will be held at the High School Library. The Board is eager for the entire community to meet and get to know Dr. Khoury, and will communicate the date and time of the reception as soon as it is finalized.

“The Board worked diligently on behalf of the community to find the next superintendent for the District. We appreciate the trust and patience of the community, students and staff as we moved through the process. The candid and thoughtful input which was provided is the reason this process culminated in a successful search, said Cohen. “We invite the community to join the Board in welcoming Dr. Khoury to Ardsley, he added.
