More than 50 Irvington High students were named Advanced Placement Scholars this year. The designation comes from The College Board, which administers Advanced Placement exams and the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
AP courses allow students to take college-level classes while in high school and to receive college credit. They take exams to demonstrate their mastery of the material and are graded on a five-point scale. The tests were taken in May. Read on to see the list of awardees.
Here are Irvington’s scholars by award:
National AP Scholar award (requires an average grade of four for all AP exams and grades of four or higher in eight or more of the exams: Sam Gordon, Joong-Sae lee and Gideon Mausner.
The AP Scholar with Distinction Award: (requires an average grade of 3.5 on all AP exams and three or higher on five or more of the exams): Zach Barlia, Michael Brancato, Rebecca Cherry, Justin Eskind, Bryan Harrison, Madeline Karel, Noa Krawczyk, Anastasia Parkhomenko, Josh Rosenberg, Kuni Shimizu, Sarah Solomon and Liz Wojnar.
AP Scholar with Honor Award: (an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams): Jillian Altamura, Kara Cicero, Mairin Din, Katie Engles, Matt Friedlander, Jina Hamad, Jonathon Jacobs, Hidemasa Kato, Masanari Kato, Jason Koh, Ben Kounitz, Kirby Mosenthal, Anya Palkowski, Justin Ross and Steven Talay.
AP Scholar Award (completed three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher):Stephanie Bereday, Dan Berman, Kirk Castellano, Andrew Epstein, Greg Fisk, Vivian Foung, Rob Hevern, Jacob Hickey, Amanda Jacobowitz, Evan Jacoby, Allison Kuriloff, Jasmine Macies, Courtney Mandel, Dan Miller, Panos Papanicolaou, Heena Purswani, Jaya Ramesh, Jessica Rubin, Katie Sacchini, Aaron Samberg, Meera Sawkar, Justin Silpe, Jennifer Swift and Andrew Weiss.
About 170,000 of the more than one million high school students who took AP exams qualified to be AP Scholars. Congratulations to all the students.
