Dear Parents,

I am delighted to share with you some very exciting news about an upcoming event that will be taking place on our High School campus this coming Friday, September 21st. The Good Day New York Fox-5 TV morning show has selected the Dobbs Ferry School District to host the station’s entire morning show live from the football practice field. The four-hour program will showcase our athletic teams and related activities, including the cheerleading squad, pep band and much, much more.

MyFoxLocker.com is the station’s newest website dedicated to promoting New York metropolitan area schools’ athletic programs and teams. Dobbs Ferry High School has its own profile on this website which highlights information about our football, wrestling, track and field, and basketball squads. The network was extremely impressed with our football team’s profile and when the show’s producers learned that Friday also happens to be “Mac Field Day, a day that brings our “Spirit Week to a fun-filled close and honors the memory and legacy of one of our most highly esteemed colleagues, they requested to film the
entire broadcast on site.

This is truly an exciting opportunity for our school and our community, one that appropriately captures the spirit of our District embodied by hard-working students both on and off the field. It is an opportunity to publicly demonstrate our Eagle pride, a great way to end our Spirit Week, and a chance for us to come together as a learning community to celebrate our students’ successes.

The Good Day Show will begin at 5:00 a.m. and end at 9:00 a.m., and will be broadcast from our turf field. Varsity Networks will be donating elevated bleachers that will seat 480 participants. We are inviting our students, staff, alumni and fans to join us on the field on Friday morning to support our players and our District. The hosts, Mike Woods, Duke Castiglione, Andy Adler and Brett Larson will be interacting with and interviewing players and members of the audience. We are asking all students on fall teams to wear their uniforms. We are encouraging students to make appropriate school spirit signs representing their teams, clubs, grade level, etc. Guidelines and details for this event are as follows:

• Students and fans can begin arriving at 6:30 a.m. There will be staff chaperones on site at that time.

• The network said that they will do random interviews with individual students and groups of students; if you do not want your child interviewed or on television, we recommend that they come to school at the close of the show at 9:00 a.m.

• School will officially begin and attendance taken at 9:15 a.m. Students should report directly to their 3rd period class. We are encouraging students to walk to school to avoid traffic complications. If your child is driven to school on Friday morning, the drop off for all students will be at the High School main entrance.

• As a reminder, there is no food or drink allowed on our turf field and students must wear soft soled footwear, preferably sneakers.

We believe that this is not just a school event, but a celebration of the Dobbs Ferry community as well. We invite everyone to join us on the field on Friday morning to support our players and our District.

Sincerely,

Debra Kaplan
