BOCES to Hold 1st Substitute Teacher Recruitment Fair
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS – On Monday, September 24, Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) will hold its first annual Substitute Teacher Recruitment Fair. The Fair will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
P/NW BOCES and local school districts are seeking potential substitute teachers in all disciplines and school levels to serve on a per diem basis. Collaborating local districts include: Briarcliff Manor, Carmel, Hendrick Hudson, Katonah-Lewisboro, Lakeland, Mahopac, North Salem, and Yorktown.
Requirements for interested participants include: college degree, experience with school-aged children, and a desire to make a difference. Certification as a teacher in New York State is desirable, but not necessary. Salary varies by school district. Participants should bring copies of their resumes.
The fair will take place on the Yorktown campus of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, in the Walden Adult Dining Room. For directions, go to www.pnwboces.org/directions.htm.
All those interested in becoming substitute teachers in local public schools will be interviewed and, if hired, trained in how to be an effective substitute teacher. Training includes such topics as classroom management, preparing for an assignment, and developing an appropriate classroom tool kit. This three-hour training session will be offered at no cost in October.
Retirees are strongly encouraged to attend the Recruitment Fair.
Questions should be e-mailed to: sfair@pnwboces.org.
