Keeping an eye on education

Something new to worry about

August
15

Greg Toppo, the USA Today education writer, collects odd education stories and passed “this one”:http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/education/stories/DN-playgroundfire_14met.ART.State.Edition1.426b04e.html from Dallas on to colleagues.

In essence, the contining triple-digit heat in Texas following earlier rains has created the perfect conditions for spontaneous combustion: wood chips used as ground cover for a playground burst into flames. Apparently the layers of damp and then heated wood acted like a compost heap, generating heat, until it went up in flames. No one was hurt, by the way.
