We cover high school sports, so why not keep tabs on the local academic competitions? White Plains math teacher Les Roby just sent us the latest results from the Westchester Academic Challenge of Knowledge Organization tournament, known by the acronym WACKO. He reported to us on the last tournament and now he’s back with another exclusive. Take it away Mr. Roby:
“The WACKO season comes to a close for 2006-2007. WACKO #3 was held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 with New Rochelle, Horace Greeley, Hastings, and White Plains making it into the semifinals. #1 Seed New Rochelle fell to #4 White Plains 310-275 in a very close contest, while Hastings converted a close match in the early stages into a 380-240 win over Horace Greeley. In the finals White Plains took control early, led 180-80 at half-time enroute to a 405-310 final score. White Plains ended the campaign at 14-1 and two tournament victories, New Rochelle was second at 11-2 ( with the third victory), while Hastings and Rye Country Day were tied at 10-3.
