School vaccinations against a sexually-transmitted virus?

Texas now mandates girls be vaccinated against human papillomavirus before they can enter sixth grade.
The issue caught the eye of “local edubogger Debra Kaplan”:http://dobbsferry.k12.ny.us/dfblogs/dfblogs.htm (she’s the Dobbs superintendent).
The purpose: to prevent cervical cancer.
But there are a lot of questions, Kaplan points out.
These are 11-year-olds. Is that too young? How far have parents gotten by then with the frank and open talk about sexual activity? How far SHOULD they have gotten?
Are schools teaching about HPV in the sex-ed section of fifth-grade health class?
Is it the state’s job anyway? Aren’t required vaccinations meant to prevent contagious diseases from spreading through the population?
I wonder whether local parents are beginning to request it for their daughters from their pediatricians.

What about safety? This is a pretty new vaccine, correct? And some people want to forcibly (i.e., require under law) vaccinate every single pre-pubescent girl for its nationwide introductory roll-out, rather than targetting more vulnerable populations who voluntarily choose the risk and benefit of using this new vaccine?
Follow the money:
“Recently, Governor Rick Perry issued an Executive Order that young girls in Texas be vaccinated.
“The vaccine, Gardasil, is produced by Merck & Co., which is based in Whitehouse Station, NJ, and was approved by the FDA in June 2006. The manufacturer did its own clinical testing on the drug.
“According to the Washington Post, a Baltimore sponsor of similar legislation recently withdrew it because of questions about her ties to the drug company and Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female legislators. A top official from Merck’s vaccine division sits on the Women in Government business council.
“Perry, who circumvented his state’s legislature, also has strong ties to Merck – national media reports have surfaced that one of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas is Perry’s former chief of staff. Texas media have also reported that Perry’s current chief of staff’s mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.

Just today, I heard on NPR that healthy younger woman fight off HPV strains naturally.
“The American Cancer Society recommends waiting until women are 30 or older before adding the HPV test to the Pap smear. That is because nearly half of all women in their 20s have transient HPV infections that their immune systems can fight off.
“Most of the women who come into contact with HPV, in fact 80 percent, will spontaneously clear the infection over two years, says Dr. Tom Wright of Columbia University.
“So the women we’re worried about are the ones who have persistent infections, Wright says. These are the women who need to be watched closely.

Please investigate what caused the SUDDEN spate of mandates across the country, and what possible reason we have to experiment on a U.S. generation of girls as completely as these laws propose to!
Shouldnt this be a parental decision? I understand the truly communicable diseases. But sexually transmitted? when do parents get to be parents again and decide what a child needs or doesnt need or is it truly we are the children of rome and must do as rome dictates?
The big part of this story is that Texas was lobbied by the drug company to make this madatory. Also it is a newer vaccine so the long term effects with large groups is unknown. Preventing cancer is important so the info should be provided to parents by the state and the parents should make the choice.
Many things give cancer, and they are really unsure as how to prevent it. we are all born with the cancer cells/genes within our body. its whether or not they get triggered to activate from their dormancy.
A drug company dictating this is even worse than the state. First we had to worry about eminent domain for our house and property. Now our bodies are fair game. so much for being free. :-\
How about Hepatitis B? It’s an STD, and vaccination is required for school.
thats like saying Pregnancy is an STD. read this or anything else..
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/hepb_ez/
I believe its categorized as a liver disease and not just an STD. like herpes etc. which the primary and only way of getting it is intimate contact or the only result of intimate contact.

It’s a pretty sad statement that a state feels the need to inoculate girls against a sexually transmitted disease at age 11.
Rome is now the parent. we just provide room and board.
