Fields of Dreams

The Fields of Dreams campaign still has a way to go before new sports fields and facilities can be constructed at the Brewster school district.
The ultimate goal is to raise approximately $5 million in private and corporate donations to build two synthetic turf fields and a sod baseball field, complete with new bleachers and scoreboards.
The more immediate goal is to reach the $1 million milestone by May 1, so that crews can break ground on the first field by the end of the school year. Only about a quarter of that money has been pledged thus far.
This week, Brewster students participated in a phone-a-thon to help further the cause. Up to 50 students from the marching band, varsity club and Athletes Helping Athletes group worked the phones, asking for donations.
They raised more than $2,000 during the first two out of three nights, and about 100 or so people have requested more information about the project before making a pledge.
Callers started with a list of Brewster alumni from 1975 to 1985 who no longer live in the area, but may have to look beyond those years tonight because they’ve basically exhausted the list.
Bruen, Deldin and DiDio Associates, Inc., a Brewster insurance agency, donated the use of their office and phones for the fundraiser.
Other fundraisers – including a softball tournament – are in the works.
If the Fields of Dreams campaign can collect $1 million, then a $1 million â€Ĺ“challengeâ€? grant from the Starr Foundation will come through in two payments of $500,000.

Has anyone gone to Home Depot, Kohls, Linens and Things, Applebees, EB-Games, ect … ? These are big corporations and I cannot imagine them not donating a lot of money as they are making tons of money from us right here in our town. We put up with the extra traffic, accidents, road garbage, they can give back a bit I would think. If they do not donate money then let it known to the Brewster-Southeast community they are not willing to help.
Hello Spring Knolls. You raise a good point in that schools really are trying to reach out to businesses (especially big businesses like the ones you mentioned) for support in financing the schools. I would hope that these sorts of businesses do have money set aside for charitable donations to the communities they are in…
