A recent discussion on the Education Writers Association listserv centered around whether someone visiting a classroom should correct a teacher who misspells a word on the blackboard/whiteboard, especially if there’s a chance the students would copy down the mistake. A second thread mused on correcting a teacher/administrator who mispronounces a word. Should a teacher’s dignity be questioned in the presence of students? Should the adult be corrected?

One reason I decided against becoming a teacher is because I’m a horrible speller and was afraid of making mistakes on the blackboard! (I’m not kidding….)
