School bullies

I have heard some chilling stories about school bullying. Last year, for instance, one mom told me that her elementary-aged son became suicidal after bullies teased him about being overweight. He began cutting himself, and she took him out of school for weeks to seek counseling. Neither the mom nor the son wanted to speak with me on the record, which is understandable. But the mom wanted to know what she could do to keep her son safe.
It may be inevitable that every school will have its group of bullies. But research shows that identifying where bullying behavior typically occurs in a school may help to protect kids.
“Research has shown that violence occurs more in unmonitored areas within schools such as hallways, bathrooms, stairwells, and playgrounds, says Ronald Pitner, a school violence expert and assistant professor of social work at Washington University in St. Louis. “Thus, one way of cutting down on violence in schools is to identify ‘hotspots’ within the school where children feel that violence is likely to occur, and then to place school monitors in those areas.

I feel it is time to spend more time counseling and group counseling kids and spending less time on “coking them to the gills”. And I`m doing fine after my surgery. WBR LeoP
