“Everybody has something to say about education.”

That’s what State Senator Tom Morahan’s spokesman Ron Levine told me about the meeting coming up this afternoon in Nanuet between his boss and 20 teachers union presidents from Rockland and Orange counties.
The senator (R-C, New City) is thinking about education reform issues that’ll be coming up this legislative session, and wants to talk to folks first, Levine said.
Financing education is on Morahan’s mind, Levine said. “Just because of the sheer cost of educating people a second look and a third look are required.”
Accountability, funding, mandates, governance—there are a lot of issues out there. “And sometimes someone’s change is another person’s nightmare,” Levine acknowledged.
Will funding be at the top of the agenda? Could be, given that Haverstraw and Stony Point residents are still reeling over their school tax bills, which climbed in some cases more than 100 percent after Mirant won its lawsuit to lower taxes for its power plants. People were holding their tax notices and crying.

See why are the taxpayers liable for taxes owed by a coporation? As one person said, its ok for a corporation to not pay its taxes but the taxpayer has to pay the tax owed? My question is why does the tax payer have to foot the bill for this???? Its unfair and once again Middle-Class is hammered and expected to pay the Govt and say thank you would you like a raise? meanwhile because of offshoring many people are losing their jobs to India/Asia or have to take pay cuts. Yet Inflation and taxes still are on the rise. Its truly unfair… This can be done by systematically firing those in charge we have the right we just need the people to stand up and do what the consitution gave us the ability to do.
steps down from soap Box
This is part of Sen. Morahan’s continuing look at education and the different people who are interested in it. He met in June with school superintendents and school board presidents to get their input. Read what they had to say “here”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060703/NEWS03/607030315
Very Interesting article:
Yeah, negotiate with the state, which wants the money to pay their salaries. I think “the people” need to have the “elected” officials audited to see how they spend our money before we say you can tell us how to spend school money. Many people pay an aweful lot in school tax and there’s no reason why they should have to pay off a bill someone else incurred. That is equivalent to me being at a store purchasing something and saying. The next 10 people in line will pay for my item, hand the shopkeeper a letter from my lawyer and goodbye.
